Simplebet, a sports micro-betting technology provider, has seen record-setting betting during the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

Supplying in-play offerings for the likes of DraftKings, Betway, Golden Nugget, Intralot, and Bet365, Simplebet notes that the betting trend indicates that micro time frame wagering is becoming a “must have” offering for any operator, especially with every single postseason game being played on national television.

During the season, the provider offered in-play markets for every pitch and plate appearance in 2,430 regular season games.

As a result, Simplebet markets produced around $262m in handle during the season, accounting for an estimated 25% of its partners’ total MLB live-betting handle in the US. Handle grew throughout the season as well (April: $16.7m, September: $53.7m).

Over 715,000 pitch result markets were offered in real-time during the season, accounting for around 40% of the total handle from Simplebet markets.

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge received the most bets of any player during the season with 150,000, followed by Pete Alonso of the New York Mets with less than 75,000. Near 38% of all Judge bets occurred during the final two weeks of the season.

Games involving the Yankees and Mets teams accounted for 13% of the total handle, while California teams accounted for 20%. Plate appearance markets averaged an in-game availability of 95% across all MLB games.

Back in August, Simplebet expanded its college football offerings on the DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of the 2022 season.
