BetMGM has signed National Hockey League’s (NHL) reigning MVP, Connor McDavid, as its newest brand ambassador, where he will be featured in the sports betting and igaming operator’s upcoming marketing campaigns, promotions, social media content, and fan events.
Captain of the Edmonton Oilers, McDavid is also the first active professional athlete from one of the four major US sports to become a BetMGM brand ambassador.
Commenting on the deal, McDavid said: “I am very excited to partner with BetMGM as they continue to shape the future of sports betting.
“It’s also a real honor to be on the same BetMGM team with star athletes like Wayne Gretzky and Kevin Garnett, both of whom I admire very much.”
McDavid broke out in the NHL in 2016, becoming the league’s youngest-ever captain at 19 years old. He also won the Art Ross Trophy (leading scorer), the Hart Memorial Trophy (MVP award), and the Ted Lindsay Award (best player award) in that same season.
Despite having only played six seasons in the NHL so far, the All-Star center is already considered one of the sport’s greats after winning each one of the previously mentioned awards multiple times.
BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer, Matt Prevost, added: “The accomplishments that Connor has already earned on the ice is astonishing and we are excited to welcome him to the BetMGM family. We look forward to working together to engage BetMGM players across North America.”
Earlier this month, MGM Resorts International and BetMGM expanded their responsible gaming initiative, providing comprehensive responsible gaming tools for both in-person and online gaming via GameSense.
