The Minnesota Lottery is enhancing its retail and digital operations through a new technology agreement with Georgia-based gaming giant Scientific Games.
On Monday, Scientific Games announced that it secured a seven-year deal with the Minnesota Lottery to power the regulated gaming provider’s omnichannel sales system. The two entities have the opportunity to renew their agreement for an additional three years.
“Scientific Games looks forward to serving the Minnesota Lottery with the highest standards of excellence and all the flexibility a cloud-based ecosystem has to offer,” said Scientific Games President of Americas & Global Instant Products John Schulz.
“A systems conversion requires a strong partnership and months of cooperation and collaboration. We will work closely with the Minnesota Lottery’s team to deliver another successful go-live, moving the lottery into a sustainable future”.
As part of the deal, the Minnesota Lottery is replacing its legacy system with Scientific Games solutions. Scientific Games will allow the Minnesota Lottery to leverage its Momentum ecosystem, a cloud-based solution that aims to streamline sales and drive growth. The Minnesota Lottery is also improving its delivery of lottery tickets to residents and visitors by utilizing Scientific Games’ clerk-operated terminals and self-service machines. The products will be available at all Minnesota retailers that sell lottery tickets.
Scientific Games is also bolstering the Minnesota Lottery’s marketing efforts with its CRM program that is backed by the company’s digital promotions solutions.
“We took an innovative approach to selecting technology that would pave the way to the future and responsibly grow our contributions to programs that positively impact the lives of Minnesotans,” said Minnesota Lottery Executive Director Adam Prock.
“We were seeking modern technology and a solution focused on service and partnership. Scientific Games was aligned with our vision for growth”.
Scientific Games and a US lottery reach a milestone
The Minnesota Lottery expects to drive growth through its partnership with Scientific Games after the provider helped the Florida Lottery reach a historic mark.
Last month, the Florida Lottery reported $7bn in retail sales in 2025 for its scratch-off game partnership with Scientific Games, breaking a previous record set in 2022. The results were spearheaded by a 6.8% increase in year-over-year sales for retail scratch-offs.
In addition to the Florida Lottery and the Minnesota Lottery, Scientific Games also recently worked with the Ohio Lottery, the New Mexico Lottery and Loto-Québec.
Lawmakers consider changes to Minnesota gaming
The Minnesota Lottery continues to operate as lawmakers consider expanding the state’s gaming market. Last week, a state Senate committee discussed a piece of legislation that aims to authorize online sports wagering through tribal partnerships. The bill, Senate File 4139, allows Minnesota’s gaming regulator to issue up to 11 online sports betting licenses.
Under the measure, each tribe would be allowed to obtain one sports betting license.
Minnesota lawmakers are also considering a piece of legislation that proposes a ban on the delivery of sports and political event contracts in the North Star State.
