DraftKings is solidifying its footprint in the Puerto Rico market with the launch of online sports betting, less than six months after initially entering the U.S. territory.

The Boston-based fantasy and sports betting giant made its online sportsbook available to eligible Puerto Rico residents who have registered with the operator in person at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. Upon launch, the operator confirmed that its online sportsbook will only be available to residents and not visitors of the popular vacation destination.

“Puerto Rico has a passionate sports community and launching our online sportsbook allows us to meet fans where they are,” said DraftKings Executive Vice President Gregory Karamitis. “With retail already live at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, mobile represents the next step in expanding the DraftKings experience across the island—giving eligible local customers a seamless, exciting, and responsible way to engage with sports.”

DraftKings first made its debut in Puerto Rico back in November 2025 and has since expanded its presence with brick-and-mortar wagering via a partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Its retail presence has continued to grow, with a recent collaboration with LionGrove, an investment firm, continuing to solidify DraftKings’ presence within the territory.

Its operations in Puerto Rico bring its total reach to more than 30 regulated gaming markets.

DraftKings’ commitment to Spanish-language speakers

DraftKings’ launch in Puerto Rico follows on from the debut of its Spanish-language functionality, which has been rolled out across its sportsbook and online casino apps in both the U.S. and Ontario.

Chief Product Officer Corey Gottlieb noted during an earnings call last year that Spanish-speaking players represent a growing segment of the company’s customer base.

It is expected that the addition of its Spanish-language functionalities will enable the operator to expand its brand presence further across the U.S. market ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup – with the previous edition of the tournament garnering more than $1bn in wagers in the U.S. alone in 2022.

DraftKings has also launched its prediction markets product in numerous major states with a large Spanish-speaking population, including California, Texas and Florida.

Other major sportsbooks in Puerto Rico

The competition in Puerto Rico is continuing to heat up, with operators including BetMGM and FanDuel already present in the territory.

Last year, BetMGM opened a retail sportsbook at the Mayaguez Resort and Casino after securing a market access agreement in 2021 with Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort. It allows BetMGM to offer both online and retail sports betting to residents in Puerto Rico.

FanDuel has also established a retail and online presence in Puerto Rico through a partnership with Caribbean CAGE, a company that specializes in gaming terminals. PrizePicks also has a footprint there, becoming the first DFS operator to secure a license in the U.S. territory. The company has yet to announce an official launch date.
