BetMGM has teamed up with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) to allow Monumental+ app viewers to opt in to view live odds and access the operator’s sportsbook while watching mobile streams of Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals games.

MSE is the exclusive local TV media rights holder for the NHL’s Capitals, the NBA’s Wizards and the WNBA’s Washington Mystics games. The new offering, developed in collaboration with interactive tech provider Play Anywhere, will make Monumental+ the first local streaming platform outside Las Vegas to feature live betting odds and other interactive gaming options.

Fans who click a prompt to place a bet will be redirected to the BetMGM app.

“BetMGM is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance the fan experience and ‘go to where our customers are,’” said Matt Prevost, BetMGM chief revenue officer. “This partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment perfectly demonstrates how live odds integration can heighten the enjoyment of a game – and how we continue to raise the bar on technological innovation across sports.”

The new Monumental Game Center feature will not only integrate real-time sports betting odds but also gamification options such as interactive trivia questions and other features via popups on viewers’ screens during Wizards and Capitals livestreams. Opting in will also give viewers a control bar that offers the likes of in-game player and stats, play-by-play analysis, player bios and full-season stats and league standings.

“At Monumental Sports & Entertainment, we pride ourselves on having a first-mover mentality and we are ecstatic to lead the way in creating an interactive, next-generation viewing experience for our fans,” said MSE President of Media & New Enterprises Zach Leonsis.

Latest step to integrate viewing and betting

While MSE described the BetMGM odds deal as a first-of-its-kind service for the NBA, this is actually the latest step in what is an accelerating trend of intrinsically tying together viewing and live betting.

Back in March 2024, Sportradar, the exclusive worldwide distributor of NBA data, launched an enhanced emBET in-play integration within the NBA League Pass platform. That feature allows fans to track odds and market changes in near-real time and select bets from the league’s official betting partners FanDuel and DraftKings directly within the league’s livestreaming platform.

The NBA’s EVP of Media and Gaming Scott Kaufman-Ross said at the time that the idea was to provide basketball fans with a customizable and convenient way to keep up with in-play odds and markets. He added that he sees the integration as “a really good first step” towards the NBA offering in-game betting within its own league-run platforms without leaving the app.

Other leagues have begun to experiment with similar deals. FanDuel and the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) allow viewers to see betting markets including player props, novelty markets and same-game parlays all in one place while streaming within the FanDuel app.
