Pavilion Payments is taking steps to ensure responsible gambling practices.

The omnichannel payments provider has agreed to provide financial and operational support to the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG). Pavilion — which provides payment solutions for sports betting, iGaming, and iLottery brands — will be providing the ICRG with funding for a research initiative. The initiative, which will be led by Carleton University professor Dr. Michael J.A. Wohl, is aimed at developing tools to facilitate responsible gambling practices.

“At Pavilion Payments, we are committed to promoting responsible and ethical practices within the gaming industry,” said Pavilion CEO Christopher Justice. “Our investment in the ICRG reflects our dedication to advancing research that will contribute to the development of effective tools for responsible gambling.”

Through the initiative, Pavilion and the ICRG aim to develop responsible gambling tools that can be offered by gambling operators and widely adopted by players. The initiative, which will consist of two prospective studies and two experiments, builds on previous research that found preemptive limit options are more effective than suggestion-based options in reducing problem gambling over time.

The Las Vegas-based company, which was acquired by Parthenon Capital last April, recently bolstered its portfolio of clients. In December 2023, Pavilion secured a deal with ClutchBet to integrate its payment processing technology into the sportsbook’s app. ClutchBet, a subsidiary of Australian bookmaker BlueBet, has been awarded sports wagering licenses in Colorado and Iowa.
