New Jersey’s total gaming revenue up almost 7% YoY in September

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has seen total gaming revenue grow by almost 7% year-over-year in September with sports wagering seeing the biggest increase.

In its latest monthly report, the DGE declared a total gaming revenue reported by casinos, racetracks, and their partners of $485m, a 6.9% increase YoY (2021: $453.6m). 

Year-to-date, total gaming revenue stands at $3.87bn, a 12.3% improvement YoY (2021: $3.44bn).

Sports wagering saw the biggest increase in revenue, with its gross revenue for September coming in at $98m, an 18.9% YoY uptick (2021: $82m). Year-to-date, sports wagering revenue stands at $516.9m, a 7.3% decline YoY (2021: $557.8m). 

Sports betting had a total handle for the month of $866.7m, of which $807.7m came from online operators and $58.9m from retail.

In terms of revenue per operator, Meadowlands/FanDuel/PointsBet was New Jersey’s best-performing sports betting operator with $46.6m (2021: $41.2m), followed by DraftKings/Resorts/FoxBet with $22.4m (2021: $13.1m), Borgata/BetMGM with $10m (2021: $13.4m) and Tropicana/William Hill with $6.4m (2021: $3.2m).

Although sports wagering saw the biggest YoY growth in September, the DGE reported that casino and igaming revenue also improved on the previous year.

Total casino win for the state’s nine casino hotel properties was $251.7m for September, a 1.3% improvement YoY (2021: $248.5m). Year-to-date, casino win stands at $2.13bn, a 12.5% increase YoY (2021: $1.90bn).

Per vertical during the month, slot machine win came in at $186.4m (2021: $181.9m) while table games produced a win of $65.2m (2021: $66.5m).

Borgata was the best-performing casino operator with $62.3m (2021: $60.2m), followed by Hard Rock with $43.6m (2021: $41m), Ocean Casino with $30.5m (2021: $29m), Harrah’s with $23.2m (2021: $27.4m), and Caesars with $22.4m (2021: $22m).

The DGE has reported an igaming win of $135.2m for September, a 10.3% YoY increase (2021: $122.6m). Year-to-date, igaming win stands at $1.22bn, a 23.2% improvement YoY (2021: $988.7m).

Per operator, Borgata was top with $41.1m in revenue (2021: $38.2m), followed by Resorts Digital with $34.19m (2021: $28.3m), Golden Nugget with $34.16m (2021: $31m), Caesars with $9m (2021: $10.1m), and Hard Rock with $5.6m (2021: $5.8m).

Across casino, igaming, and sports betting, the DGE has declared that $48.5m was paid in September state taxes. Year-to-date, $387.3m has been paid in state taxes.
