DraftKings adds attorney to gaming regulation division
As regulated online gaming and prediction markets operators deal with an ever-evolving landscape of state and federal regulations, DraftKings is adding a new attorney in that area of its company.
Ryan Whelpley joined DraftKings this month as corporate counsel, gaming regulations, according to an announcement on his LinkedIn page. The Boston-based company deals in iGaming, online sports betting, prediction markets, lottery and other gaming verticals.
Whelpley comes to DraftKings after a five-year stint with Morse, a Waltham-based firm that touts itself as having a “reputation for special competency in technology ventures.” He is a 2019 graduate of Albany Law School.
Ex-FanDuel director to lead new Canadian effort
UK-based iGaming brand Midnite is hiring a former FanDuel Canada executive to lead its push into the north.
Dale Tang joins Midnite as general manager for Canada, according to a LinkedIn post.
“The chance to build something new in Canada doesn’t come around often – so I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Midnite to lead its launch into the Canadian market,” Tang wrote on LinkedIn.
Midnite launched an online sportsbook product in 2018 and expanded into online casino in 2023. The company did not announce any details about its plans for Ontario, Alberta, or any other Canadian province along with its hire of Tang.
USA Today hires new sports betting lead
Sports betting analyst Adam Kaufman will join USA Today to helm an effort at growing the vertical.
Kaufman’s background includes stops at a number of sports media and wagering outlets, with the longest a 12-year run with iHeartRadio. He also previously worked at NESN, VSIN, DraftKings and Action Network.
