Kambi has entered its 27th U.S. state through a new tribal gaming deal in North Dakota.
The sports betting technology provider has signed a multi-year agreement with the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation) to provide on-property sports betting at the tribe’s flagship gaming destination 4 Bears Casino and Lodge.
Kambi will replace 4 Bears Casino and Lodge’s current third-party supplier with its market-leading retail sports betting technology including a full suite of self-service kiosks, over-the-counter terminals and Bring-Your-Own-Device technology.
North Dakota’s limited sports betting market
Swedish-rooted Kambi noted in a press release that the partnership also includes “future scope” for on-premise mobile sports betting and potentially state-wide operations, pending regulatory conditions. North Dakota state Rep. Scott Louser tried to get state legislators to approve a constitutional amendment to allow online sports betting in the state last year, but the effort died just three weeks into January 2025 when the state House voted down the measure 70-24.
For now, the state only allows sports betting to be done on-site at tribal casinos. 4 Bears Casino and Lodge is one of those, located in New Town along Lake Sakakawea.
“We are proud to partner with the MHA Nation and 4 Bears Casino and Lodge to bring world-class sports betting experiences to the state of North Dakota,” said Kambi Chief Executive Officer Werner Becher. “The MHA Nation is well-positioned to elevate its entertainment offering across the state, and this agreement marks another important step in expanding regulated sports betting across tribal gaming.”
4 Bears Casino and Lodge has undergone expansion in recent times, with the addition of an events centre and a new hotel tower currently under construction, and the MHA Nation is also moving ahead with plans to develop a second casino property, Son of Star Casino. General Manager Patrick Packineau said Kambi’s proven technology and commitment to tribal operators made it the ideal partner for the tribe.
Other tribal gaming partners for sports betting include IGT PlaySports, which powers the sportsbook at the Dakota Nation’s Dakota Magic Casino and Hotel, and Spirit Lake Casino and Resort partner Internet Sports International.
Meanwhile, the sports betting upgrades at 4 Bears come as legislators in neighboring South Dakota advance discussion on the idea of legalizing state-wide online wagering. The House of Representatives will begin discussing Senate Joint Resolution 504 this week after the Senate passed the measure last week.
Kambi keeps expanding in North America
The MHA Nation partnership adds a 27th U.S. state to Kambi’s sports betting reach, after Missouri became the 26th in December when Kambi launched in the newest American sports betting market through a deal with PENN Entertainment.
This North Dakota tribal agreement is just the latest in a string of partnerships for the technology provider.
Becher noted on an earnings call last week that Kambi has added at least 15 new partnerships since the start of Q4 2025. Most recently, it launched as the new omnichannel sportsbook provider for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) in late January, and it also integrated its Odds Feed+ betting solution into ComeOn Group’s platform in several markets.
The CEO also noted during the call that Kambi, which is fully licensed in Nevada, will hold field tests in the coming weeks with multiple interested potential partners and hopes to launch with at least one collaborator in the coming months. Kambi also suggested it plans to participate in the online sports betting market in Alberta, which is due to launch in mid-2026.
