One of the few locally-owned online sportsbooks in the country is calling it quits.

Action 24/7 in Tennessee has informed users it is no longer accepting wagers, as noted on its website. A Facebook post elaborated on the details of the closure.

“Notice: Tennessee Action 24/7 LLC is no longer accepting wagers. All wagers previously accepted will be honored. We are proud to have served our friends and neighbors as the only Tennessee-owned and operated licensed online sportsbook for the past five years. Thank you for your play. Thank you for your loyalty. Over 90% of funds invested in the company were from Tennesseans. We are forever grateful for your confidence and support.”

The Tennessee Lottery does not release operator-specific data regarding performance in the state, so it is unclear to see how much of a foothold the local sportsbook had on the market. The operator was one of the first sportsbooks to launch in the state when sports betting began in 2020.

In 2021, the lottery briefly suspended Action 24/7’s license, taking it offline. The regulator said the site lacked the basic internal controls necessary to operate a sportsbook. However, because of procedural issues related to how the suspension came about, the sportsbook regained its license and went back to serving the Volunteer State.

In addition to running Action 24/7, company CEO Tina Hodges has also served as the CEO of Advance Financial since 2013. The firm offers lines of credit and installment loans and Action 24/7 users were able to go to Advance Financial retail locations and fund their accounts.

SBC Americas reached out to the lottery for comment on the operator’s departure but has yet to receive a response.

With the exit of Action 24/7, there are now 12 operators live in the state, including some smaller operators not seen in many markets like peer-to-peer betting site Wagr and ZenSports.
