Inspired Entertainment is bolstering its portfolio of sports assets behind a deal with one of North America’s major professional sports leagues.

The B2B gaming content and technology provider has secured a licensing agreement with the NHL to create engaging content and experiences for hockey fans worldwide. As part of the deal, Inspired has the rights to use NHL league and team logos and branding in virtual sports games. The gaming company also has access to NHL team jerseys and names.

Inspired plans to develop an NHL-themed game using motion capture technology.

“Virtual Sports gaming continues to grow in popularity worldwide,” said NHL Group Vice President of Business Development and Innovation Chris Golier. “We are excited to work with Inspired to engage our passionate fans through Virtual Sports using NHL assets. Inspired is a leader in this space and will leverage NHL IP to deliver a gaming experience that connects with our fans in new and exciting ways, helping to grow our global fan base.”

Inspired securing a licensing deal with the NHL comes after the company reached an agreement with Kambi Group to integrate virtual sports products into Kambi’s sportsbook.

Inspired has virtual products available at over 40,000 retail channels and 100 websites. Kambi selected the New York-based company after an arduous selection process. As of October 2024, Inspired operates in roughly 35 markets worldwide. It supplies gaming systems and content to approximately 50,000 game machines in retail establishments.

Inspired reported $75.6 million in revenue in Q2 2024, a 40% increase year-over-year. Its Virtual Sports segment generated $11.7 million in revenue during the quarter, up from $15.1 million for the same period last year. Net income in Q2 2024 closed at $2 million.
