While some sweepstakes operators keep their cards close to the vest, the World Poker Tour is going all in to the vertical in a very loud way.
The company announced Wednesday that it will be rolling out ClubWPT Gold, a new sweepstakes model poker site. As a celebration of the product launch, the brand will be hosting a $5 million freeroll as part of the WPT World Championship event held at the Wynn in Las Vegas in December.
“Our return to Wynn Las Vegas this December is equipped with another monumental investment into the development and growth of not only the WPT World Championship but the poker industry as a whole,” said WPT CEO and President Adam Pliska. “In celebration of the launch of ClubWPT Gold, we’re aiming for another first for the poker world with the largest freeroll ever offered.”
The winner of the freeroll will take the top prize of $1 million. Players can qualify for the freeroll by signing up for a ClubWPT Gold account. While the product won’t be live until early 2025, the site will allow for sign ups and then employ a series of raffles and contests to give away seats. The event is set to run Dec. 13-15.
For more than a decade WPT has offered the ClubWPT product in the states as a subscription where players pay a monthly fee to participate in tournaments with cash payouts and prizes like seats into WPT events.
ClubWPT Gold will operate under the same model as competitor Global Poker with a dual currency of Gold and Sweeps Coins. Gold Coins can be used in free-to-play social poker contests while Sweeps Coins allow users to participate in tournaments with prizes with real-money value.
