Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) is teaming up with one of the most prolific athletes in Olympic history.
The online entertainment and gaming company, which specializes in sweepstakes gaming, has announced that its Global Poker brand has secured an expanded partnership with 23-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps. The partnership, which builds on last year’s Global Poker Celebrity Challenge, will see Phelps featured in marketing initiatives to promote upcoming challenges, promos, and tournaments.
“I’m thrilled to expand my partnership with Global Poker,” said Phelps. “As someone who loves competition and strategy, I have always really enjoyed the game of poker. Partnering with a leader in the online social poker space is really exciting, and I look forward to working together to bring new experiences to the Global Poker community.”
Global Poker enlisting the services of Phelps adds to recent celebrity partnerships for VGW.
Last December, VGW landed a one-year marketing deal with Emmy-winning TV host Ryan Seacrest for its Chumba Casino brand. The deal sees Chumba use Seacrest in marketing across various channels. It is Chumba Casino’s most notable partnership to date.
Regulatory woes for VGW?
VGW is bolstering its portfolio for brands as the company faces scrutiny in the U.S.
Last week, the Delaware Division of Gaming Enforcement confirmed to SBC Americas that it ordered VGW to shutter operations in the state and cease offering online sweepstake casino products. The order concerns the legality of VGW’s free-to-play gaming options.
Regulators in Idaho, Michigan, and Washington have also taken a similar stance.
