Mark Renshaw has been named as the next Chief Executive Officer of Spotlight Sports Group, replacing Alan Byrne who has stepped down from the role.

Though he has departed the executive leadership role, Byrne will still retain a prominent role at SSG, remaining as a director of the business whilst also taking up an advisory role.

Following 14 years at SSG, most recently serving as COO, Renshaw now steps into Byrne’s shoes, charged with leading the tech, media and content firm’s UK and North American growth.

Byrne said: “It is a delight to see Mark appointed. He has been at the heart of most of the best things SSG has achieved in recent years and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I know Mark has all of the skills required to lead the excellent SSG team and will continue to drive the growth of the company in the UK, North America and beyond.”

Aside from its Racing Post product in the UK, SSG has been expanding its media business in the US in recent times.

Last month, the firm struck an agreement with Sportskeeda to offer a total sports betting solution including tools, software and affiliate services for the online platform’s audience.

Meanwhile, it expanded its racing content in the US via a multi-year deal with LiveScore Group, in which it offered its Superfeed product including Racing Post data and content o the platform.

Renshaw will be expected to continue the strong momentum in North America as he steps into the top job, following a period as COO.

On his promotion, Renshaw said: “Alan, I and our management team have spent the last few months crystallizing exactly where we can accelerate growth and find new areas of opportunity. We’re absolutely clear on where we want to take Spotlight Sports Group and I am tremendously excited about the path we’re on to grow our people and our business.

“My thanks go to Alan for all of his support during our time working together, and I am delighted he is allowing us to leverage his remarkable experience in his new capacity.

We have the greatest team we’ve ever had – working on huge betting brands, such as Pickswise in North America and Racing Post in the UK. I’m equally excited about our global B2B division, which allows our sportsbook, publishing and fantasy sports partners to leverage our products, content and conversion-led expertise to drive sustainable and attributable revenue growth.”
