MGM Resorts International and its BetMGM brand plan to mark Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) with a series of investments across a number of different initiatives.
MGM Resorts and BetMGM have vowed to invest more than $1m during PGAM in responsible gaming-related initiatives that provide resources to customers nationwide.
The investment builds on a partnership between MGM Resorts, BetMGM and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) that was forged in 2021.
MGM Resorts and BetMGM will also collaborate with the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) during PGAM to back new research into player behavior.
“Problem Gambling Awareness Month is an important reminder of our year-round responsibility to assist and empower our players,” said BetMGM Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney. “We prioritize player protection by investing in education, tools, collaboration, and meaningful support resources. Our commitment remains clear: to help every player make informed decisions and enjoy our products safely.”
BetMGM & MGM Resorts take a national approach to RG
As part of their RG investments, BetMGM and MGM Resorts are teaming up to allocate more than $850,000 toward state and national problem gambling prevention and RG initiatives. Both brands have committed to investing in RG initiatives throughout 2026, but the two companies also plan to make further investments in their workforce.
MGM Resorts will provide its employees with RG training sessions throughout 2026, with the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling Conference serving as a training hub for the company next month, of which MGM Resorts is also a sponsor of the annual event itself.
They will also expand their staff training for GameSense, an RG program that supports their nationwide efforts to protect players. This is in addition to strengthening messaging across both their sportsbook and casino properties.
In addition to GameSense improvements, MGM Resorts is also introducing a new RG campaign, Earn More. Play Smart, that will be delivered through its rewards program.
MGM Resorts & BetMGM to fund RG research
BetMGM and MGM Resorts will distribute $450,000 to the ICRG to back new research initiatives that will focus on analyzing the impact of sports betting on player behavior.
The funding will be used to support a peer-reviewed research study into player behavior over a three-year period, including an analysis of player decision-making across several demographics.
It will also impact how BetMGM and MGM Resorts execute their RG strategies.
“As sports betting continues to grow, so must our understanding of its impact on our guests and customers,” said MGM Resorts Chief Compliance Officer Stephen Martino. “Investing in high-quality research allows us to be guided by valuable data and insights, which will ultimately help us support our patrons, communities and industry.”
MGM Resorts & BetMGM’s previous PGAM efforts
Last March, MGM Resorts and BetMGM worked with Kindbridge Research Institute during PGAM. The two companies donated $180,000 to support studies on the impact of sports betting on certain populations and develop new and innovative RG strategies.
MGM Resorts also donated $60,000 to state-sanctioned problem gambling councils.
