MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have expanded their responsible gambling initiatives with an emphasis on providing critical resources, advancing research efforts, and strengthening supports for problem gamblers.

BetMGM is expanding its Kindbridge Behavioural Health referral program across the U.S. with the aim of ensuring players in all of the brand’s markets have direct access to mental health services. It already offered that resource in states including Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

To coincide with Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), MGM Resorts is donating $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute to support studies on the impacts of sports betting on consumers, as well as to help develop responsible gaming strategies.

“Responsible gaming is a focal point of our operations, and we will continue to invest in programs that promote player protection and well-being,” said BetMGM’s Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney. “Expanding our partnership with Kindbridge ensures that essential support services are always within reach for those who need it.”

MGM to enhance GameSense offerings

MGM Resorts and BetMGM will also boost the responsible gaming messaging they offer via the GameSense program. GameSense was developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and first licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017. It is used by other stakeholders including several Canadian provinces and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Responsible gaming reminders will be integrated into BetMGM’s online sportsbook and casino as well as retail sportsbooks. QR codes will allow users easy access resources and GameSense Advisors are present at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks for player support.

In addition, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are working with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to educate law students on the importance of responsible gaming in regulatory and industry practices.

“As a global gaming and hospitality leader, we are always looking to support innovative and actionable research that can make a positive impact,” said MGM Resorts SVP and Chief Compliance Officer Stephen Martino. “As our company continues to grow both domestically and internationally, these studies will allow us to support our industry and enhance the sustainability of communities in which we operate.”

BetMGM also has RG partnerships with problem gambling education consultancy firm EPIC Global Solutions, which provides lived-experience education sessions for all BetMGM employees, as well as the American Gaming Association.
