PrizePicks is continuing to build its portfolio of partners throughout MLB as the daily fantasy sports operator has agreed to a partnership with one of the league’s best teams.

The Atlanta-based company announced on Wednesday a deal with the San Diego Padres to become the team’s official DFS partner. The partnership marks the first time PrizePicks has collaborated with a professional sports team in California. PrizePicks has a presence in California despite the state not having laws that expressly legalize DFS.

The lack of explicit rules allows DFS operators in the state to operate in a grey area. The presence of DFS operators in California led to a review by current Supervising Deputy Attorney General Karim Kentfield following a request from former Sen. Scott Wilk. The request was made to determine whether DFS contests were games of skill or chance.

PrizePicks responded to the review by sending a letter to the Attorney General’s office that provided research that indicated that its DFS contests are games of skill. In California, the state’s gaming law doesn’t ban operators from offering games of skill to customers.

PrizePicks is expanding its reach in California through its partnership with the Padres, which will see the DFS have a branding presence at the team’s home ballpark, Petco Park.

PrizePicks will also have marketing across the Padres’ digital platforms.

“The Padres are one of the most dynamic franchises in MLB, and we’re proud to be part of their journey,” said PrizePicks CMO Mike Quigley. “PrizePicks players and Padres fans share a deep passion for the game, and we look forward to creating new ways to engage and connect with fans both in San Diego and across the country.”

PrizePicks and the Padres are celebrating their new partnership by offering an in-game promotion that will be available to fans and DFS players throughout the 2025 season.

The promotion, available when the Padres score 10 or more runs at home, is a text-to-enter contest for a chance to win a $10,000 PrizePicks lineup and tickets to a Padres game.

PrizePicks renews deal with its hometown team

Earlier this month, the DFS giant renewed its partnership with the Atlanta Braves to remain the MLB franchise’s official DFS partner. The three-year deal comes after PrizePicks and the Braves secured a partnership in 2020.

As part of its renewed pact, PrizePicks will have a branding presence at Truist Park.
