Great Canadian Entertainment has celebrated the opening of Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, Canada’s biggest casino resort.

Aiming to provide an “exhilarating atmosphere that caters to all preferences”, the resort boasts 328,000 square feet of gaming space, including 4,800 slot machines, 145 table games, VIP rooms, and sports betting kiosks.

The location is adjacent to Woodbine Racetrack covering 33 acres of land and is anticipated to generate over $500m in economic impact to the local economy, providing 2,000 jobs.

“We are thrilled to finally unveil Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto to the world,” commented Matthew Anfinson, CEO of Great Canadian Entertainment.

“Our team has worked tirelessly for several years to create an unrivaled entertainment experience that will leave a lasting impression on our guests. The opening of this first phase of Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is incredibly exciting for all of us, and we are very eager to reveal the next phases, including the hotel and theatre, in the coming weeks and months.”

Ensuring the safety of its patrons, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto will have a PlaySmart Centre on the gaming floor which provides interactive tools and responsible gambling resources.

Meanwhile, away from the gaming floor, the resort will have a 400-room hotel across 11 floors, as well as a wellness center with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room.

In the coming months, Great Canadian Toronto will also open a 5,000-person entertainment venue for live music, comedy, sports and special events, with an exclusive booking partnership with Live Nation to host world-class artists.

The destination has invested $5m into artworks for the property, carefully selected to ensure “equitable representation of diverse and underrepresented communities”. To help reduce the site’s carbon footprint, there is also 250,000 square feet of green roof with solar panel canopies and electric vehicle parking for guests.

Great Canadian Toronto will also have 35,000 square feet of retail space with 15 locations, diverse culinary options and 3,800 covered parking spaces.

The latest edition of the Canadian Gaming Business Magazine saw Gavin Whiteley, CMO of Great Canadian, look ahead to the opening of the Great Canadian Casino Resort.

Noting that the resort would “reimagine” casino gaming, he stated: “Our network of destinations offers a complete entertainment experience – live concerts and entertainment, various dining options, dedicated in-person service, all complementing the gaming or betting experience by itself.

“There is a social experience to visiting one of our casinos or resorts that is inherently distinctive from an individualized online experience.”
