Genius Sports has received a temporary license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to be a licensed sports wagering vendor.

Lasting for an initial period of 12 months subject to final full approval, Genius will be able to bring its official sports data and technology provisions to sportsbooks in the Bay State.

Following approval in Massachusetts, Genius Sports now holds 41 licenses or equivalent across North America including across US states and territories and Canada.

“We are honored that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has awarded Genius Sports its temporary sports wagering vendor authorization to provide licensed sportsbooks with access to our exclusive NFL wagering products and media solutions,” said Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports.

“As an ever-expanding number of US states legalize sports betting, Genius Sports welcomes the opportunity to work with states like Massachusetts, on providing sports fans with official sports data-powered solutions to power their sportsbooks.”

Regulated sports betting launched in Massachusetts on Tuesday when casinos across the state opened their retail sportsbooks.

Online sports betting is set to launch in March, with a further six operators going live in the state via category three untethered licenses.

Wynn Resorts’ Encore Casino opened its sportsbook using the WynnBet sportsbook brand, MGM Springfield is deploying its BetMGM JV brand, whilst Plainridge Park has opened a sportsbook with PENN, using the Barstool Sportsbook brand. Caesars has also partnered with Raynham Park casino to operate its retail sportsbook.

Genius Sports holds the official data rights for a range of sports leagues including the NFL, MLB, and the NCAA.
