DFS and sportsbook operator FanDuel has announced the appointment this week of Andrew Winchell, former chief of staff for New York Senator John Bonacic. He will take up the new role of Director of Government Affairs at the firm.

Hailing from a political background, Winchell joins the company with more than a decade of experience working in the New York State Legislature.

During that period he gained significant experience of gaming and racing legislation, with specific expertise in legislating the fantasy sports and sports betting sectors. He is also a noted speaker on gaming law. In Bonacic’s office, he introduced more than 100 bills with passage of an average of 44 per year, over the last eight years, resulting in recognition for Bonacic as most productive State Senator in the nation by FiscalNote.

Winchell’s latest role will entail coordinating legislative efforts before state governments around the country, meeting with legislators and state regulators to explain the company’s products and reviewing draft legislation and regulations to determine their impact on FanDuel Group.

He told SBC Americas: “I am thrilled to join the FanDuel team and very excited to continue working on fantasy sports and sports betting policy.”
