William Hill and FanDuel have unveiled the launch of their mobile sports betting offering in the New Jersey market, as the pair looking to strengthen their position in the US market in time for the NFL season.

The two firms commenced offering mobile sports betting New Jersey on Saturday night, becoming part of the State’s growing sports betting market and taking the number of companies offering such gambling in the region to five.

The expansion follows on from similar offerings being supplied in the State by operators such as; Borgata casino; fantasy sports company Draft Kings, which partners with Resorts casino; and PlaySugarHouse.com.

Other operators are also expected to look towards entering the mobile betting market, with many inevitably eyeing this Thursday’s NFL season opener between the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons.

The Borgata was the first New Jersey casino to offer sports betting beginning in June. It has since been joined by the Ocean Resort; Harrah’s; Bally’s; Resorts; and the Golden Nugget.

In the first month of trading, the state of New Jersey recorded a total of $16.6m being wagered during the month, despite operations only commencing at two locations, Monmouth Park racetrack and The Borgata, on June 14, before being joined by the newly opened Ocean Resort Casino on June 28.

Furthermore, in July,  the first full month of wagering in New Jersey, gambling operators took in $40.6 million in sports wagers.
