Michigan reports slower February handle but stronger profits

Michigan sportsbooks posted a year-over-year decline in February betting handle while also reporting a significant increase in gross wagering revenue during the same period.

According to data provided by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), the state’s licensed sports betting operators posted a total online handle of $379.8 million in February 2025, down from $402.5 million for the same month last year. Last month, licensed operators in Michigan generated $46 million in total gross receipts. By comparison, online sportsbooks in the state closed February 2024 with $30.4 million in gross receipts.

The MGCB reported varying results with only one NFL game on the February sports calendar after a strong run by the Detroit Lions to reach the divisional playoff round in January. February’s lone NFL contest, Super Bowl LIX, attributed to the month’s results.

February saw online operators pay $1.5 million in taxes and payments. By comparison, taxes and payments for operators reached $922,324 for the same month last year.

FanDuel reports strong monthly results  

The Flutter-owned brand emerged as the most popular sportsbook in Michigan with the operator accepting $142.9 million in wagers in February with revenue at $23.7 million. 

By comparison, FanDuel, a MotorCity Casino partner, accepted $152.3 million in wagers in February 2024 with total gross receipts for the month closing at $14 million.

Rival DraftKings finished February 2025 with the second-highest handle in Michigan at $106.6 million. That same month, the operator generated $12.8 million in gross receipts. 

In February 2024, DraftKings saw its handle reach $109.8 million with gross receipts at $10 million. The gaming giant partners with the Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan.

Caesars was the lone operator in February to report a revenue loss in Michigan with the brand finishing with a $78,978 loss. It generated the results with a $19.7 million handle.

ESPN Bet closed with the second-lowest revenue rate in Michigan with the emerging operator reporting $1.7 million in gross receipts in February behind a $18 million handle. 

iGaming growth in Michigan 

Michigan’s online casino market also continued to grow in February. 

Last month, iGaming operators generated $222.5 million in total gross receipts compared to $188 million in February 2024, which at the time was the highest market to date.

In February 2025, iGaming taxes and fees closed at $42.3 million. FanDuel Casino was the most profitable iGaming operator during the month with gross receipts at $61.7 million.
