Playtech will continue to produce live gaming experiences using the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire brand after securing an extension to its deal with Sony Pictures Television

After signing a two-year extension to its current agreement, Playtech Live will retain the rights for the iconic television game show in live gaming form until the end of 2028.

However, the extended agreement means that the games will come to the US, Mexico and Canada for the first time as Playtech aims to expand its presence in and commitment to the North American market.

The gaming technology provider originally penned a five-year deal with Sony Pictures Television to offer Who Wants To Be A Millionaire live casino games across European markets but the popular game format will now head over the Atlantic and into the Americas.

Three separate games have been developed using the brand including Live Roulette, Live Trivia, and the most recent addition, Video Poker Live.

The game comes with the features of the game show including 50/50, Ask the Audience and Ask the Host, which gives the player the chance to have incorrect answers removed based on the level of question they have reached.

Sasha Uman, Chief Commercial Officer at Playtech Live commented: “Collaborating with Sony Pictures Television has been a tremendous opportunity for us.  It showcases our commitment to securing top iconic brands in the game show and entertainment industry, and our dedication to offering high-quality and innovative gaming options to the audience.

Uman added: “It has allowed us to bring a diverse range of interactive games including Live Roulette, Live Trivia, and the latest addition, Video Poker Live inspired by the beloved Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Brand. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has been a global favourite for many years, and we are thrilled to be able to bring the excitement of this iconic game show to players worldwide, especially to our North American audience.”

This game has come into the US following in the footsteps of other iconic gameshows that have been turned into real-money gaming titles. IGT has produced the Wheel of Fortune series of slot games which have proven popular across the US.

The series has even inspired its own online casino as BetMGM collaborated with IGT to launch the Wheel of Fortune online casino in New Jersey in Q1 of 2023.
