PointsBet has brought an end to its brand ambassador partnership with Drew Brees, as the former NFL quarterback has become a coach at his college alma mater.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Brees had become an interim assistant coach for his former college football team, the Purdue Boilermakers.

When this appointment was made, questions were asked over if the New Orleans Saints icon should still be a representative of PointsBet while coaching at the collegiate level.

The operator has now answered those queries, bringing an end to its brand ambassador deal with Brees that began in July last year due to regulatory, legal compliance, responsible gaming, and sports betting integrity reasons.

PointsBet said in a statement: “PointsBet would like to congratulate Drew Brees on his appointment as interim assistant coach for the Purdue Boilermakers. While this is an exciting next step in his career, after careful review, we have decided to end our ambassador partnership agreement with Drew.

“Regulatory and legal compliance, responsible gaming practices, and the integrity of legal sports betting are top priorities for our organization and this decision will allow us to uphold that commitment. We wish Drew all the best as he returns home to his alma mater.”

During his time with PointsBet, Brees took part in several advertising campaigns for the operator, most recently being struck by lightning for a promo that drew significant attention and criticism on social media.
