Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has confirmed receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) on its proposed $70m entertainment destination, the Cascades Casino Delta. The new facility will include up to 500 slots and 24 table games, and is expected to open in 2020.

Located at the city’s old Town & Country Inn site, the new property will be a full-service local entertainment destination with a casual ambiance, albeit with the scale and amenities associated with a big-city entertainment facility. It joins the recently launched Cascades brand in Langley, Kamloops and Penticton, BC. The first Cascades Casino in Ontario has recently begun construction in Chatham-Kent.

“We look forward to bringing this state of-the-art entertainment destination to such a rapidly growing and dynamic community,” said CEO Tony Santo. “Through our investment of $70m in Delta we will bring up to 700 new jobs and careers to the area and significant economic spin-offs during the construction and beyond.”

The project was first announced last September when BCLC provided Gateway with preliminary approval of the Town & Country site as the preferred location. Throughout the subsequent process, Gateway actively engaged in the community, through multiple open houses, community events, stakeholder presentations and participation in public information sessions.  The proposal went before Council in the spring where it received City approval.

Santo explained: “Throughout this process we have worked closely with our partners at BCLC and The City of Delta.  I would like to thank them for their thoughtful diligence throughout this process. As well, I’d like to thank everyone in the community that attended the open houses, presentations, and the public hearing earlier this year.  Your input was invaluable and has continued to enhance the project.”

Now that all necessary regulatory approvals have been received Gateway will turn its attention to the completion of all design works, site preparations and the commencement of construction which is set to begin in the New Year pending the finalization of the land arrangements with the landowners.
