Sports betting platform provider DraftKings has announced the appointment this week of Johnny Avello who joins the firm as a director on its rapidly growing sportsbook operations team. With more than three decades of experience in gaming, Avello is widely respected throughout the sportsbook industry as an innovative, forward-thinking leader and an early proponent of mobile sports betting.
His initial role at DraftKings includes oversight of retail sportsbook trading and risk management. Prior to joining the firm, Avello spent 13 years as the executive director of the Wynn Las Vegas sportsbook.
DraftKings’ chief revenue officer and co-founder, Matt Kalish, welcomed the appointment, saying: “Johnny is considered a legend in Las Vegas. He is very respected in the gaming industry and brings well over 30 years of experience, insights and ideas to DraftKings.
