International Game Technology (IGT) has received an interim license by the West Virginia Lottery Commission to provide its PlayShot integrated sports betting platform in the state. With this approval in place, casino operators in West Virginia now have the option to partner with IGT to participate in the rapidly evolving US sports betting market.
“Receiving approval from the West Virginia Lottery Commission to deploy IGT’s PlayShot sports betting solution throughout the State continues IGT’s momentum in pioneering sports betting across the US, and creates additional new market opportunities for IGT,” said Enrico Drago, IGT senior vice president PlayDigital.
He added: “This distinction acknowledges the reliability, security and market-readiness of IGT’s PlayShot solution, and creates opportunities for IGT to further differentiate our sports betting solution in the marketplace.”
IGT’s approval comes on the cusp of West Virginia’s September 1 go-live date for legal sports betting in the state. Day one will see sports wagering take place at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town racecourse, the Mardi Gras Casino in Charleston and the Wheeling Island Casino in Wheeling.
Casino bosses will be hoping for a boost from sports betting to take the edge off a downturn in trade. 2017 revenues were 4.6 per cent down at $624m from the previous year.
