Online sportsbooks in North Carolina took more money from sports bettors than ever before in November as the Tar Heel State rebounded from a down October.

The state’s eight mobile sports betting operators took $657.7 million in total handle in November, per the latest figures from the North Carolina State Lottery Commission (NCLC). That is the second-highest amount after the $659.3 million reported in the market’s launch month of March.

Promotions given out fell to the lowest amount since August after sportsbooks had ramped up their acquisition efforts in September and October amid the start of football season. Operators doled out $19 million in sports betting credit for the month.

The new record paid handle yielded $78.1 million in gross gaming revenue, the second-most ever after April’s $105.2 million. That was up a huge 60.5% from October, when North Carolina and many other states took a beating from customers, despite total handle ticking up just 7.5%.

November’s lucrative month pulled in $14.1 million in tax revenue for the state, the highest return since the NCLC started including tax proceeds on its online sports betting revenue reports in July. After five months of the fiscal year, the state has raised $49.1 million in tax dollars from online sports betting.

In total, across the first nine months of the market, bettors have wagered around $4.8 billion and the state’s eight licensed online sportsbooks — bet365BetMGMCaesarsDraftKingsESPN BetFanDuelFanatics and Underdog — have made $548 million in GGR. The NCLC does not break down financial data by operator, so we can’t know for sure the makeup of the market.
