Caesars Sportsbook is expanding its reach throughout Washington, D.C.’s sports betting market through an agreement to provide retail betting kiosks.
The Las Vegas-based company announced on Tuesday its expansion of operations in D.C. after the Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) approved the operator to exclusively offer sports betting kiosks for retailers. Caesars has been authorized to supply self-service kiosks to 53 businesses in D.C. replacing GambetDC as the district’s previous retail supplier.
“We appreciate the Office of Lottery and Gaming for providing us the opportunity to further our connection with sports fans in our nation’s capital,” said Caesars Digital President Eric Hession. “Our self-service betting kiosks are an excellent addition to our sports wagering options in D.C. Whether sports fans prefer a traditional ticket-in-hand wagering experience or want to simply deposit cash for their mobile app account, our kiosks enhance the premier sports betting experience we offer through the combination of options and convenience that supports dozens of small businesses locally.”
Caesars is taking over for GambetDC after the Intralot subcontractor received complaints from bettors in the district over poor performance and complexity. GambetDC was the exclusive mobile operator for sports betting in D.C. before the OLG approved FanDuel in April. FanDuel was expected to be the exclusive supplier of self-service kiosks across D.C.
Two months later, BetMGM and Caesars gained approval to launch online operations in D.C. creating an open market in the district. The sportsbooks had previously solidified a presence in D.C. as operators that were allowed to only accept online wagers within a two-block radius of their retail sportsbooks located at professional sports venues in the district.
Caesars has partnered with Capital One Arena since 2021 for its retail sportsbook.
“D.C. residents and visitors will soon have access to best-in-class sports wagering kiosks at retail locations across the city,” said Interim OLG Executive Director Eugene Vlasenko. “We are pleased to partner with Caesars, a key industry player and the leader in retail sport betting operations, which is demonstrating its commitment to the D.C. community.”
Caesars’ expansion of retail operations in D.C. is poised to improve profits. In July, the operator generated $210,172 in revenue in the district behind a $1.9 million online handle. The results in July marked the lowest all-time monthly handle for Caesars in the district.
