Betr made a double announcement on Wednesday, unveiling its new peer-to-peer product Group Mode for Betr Picks as well as soft-launching the new version of its Betr Sportsbook in two states.
Group Mode in Betr Picks offers users the brand’s real-money daily fantasy sports pick ’em product in a peer-to-peer format that allows users to compete against one another.
The new P2P offering is now live in Florida and Massachusetts. It had restricted its operations in those two states earlier in 2024 after being ordered to stop offering its fantasy contests in the Sunshine State and pulling its sportsbook out of the Bay State.
With the launch of Group Mode, Betr Picks will also “imminently” enter Virginia, Arizona, Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama, West Virginia, New Hampshire and Delaware. Once those latter eight launches are complete, Betr Picks will be live in 33 states plus Washington, D.C. and available to around two-thirds of the U.S. population.
“Betr Picks will now be available to 65% of the U.S. population, enabling us to welcome millions of new sports fans to Betr for the first time,” said founder and CEO Joey Levy.
Betr first launched Betr Picks in 24 states in 2022.
Betr Sportsbook V1 is a step in the long-term plan
Meanwhile, Betr has soft-launched Betr Sportsbook for the first time in Virginia and also brought the new version to Ohio, where it has been offering sports betting since the start of 2023.
The V1 Betr Sportsbook will include mobile betting staples such as same-game parlays, player props, futures and traditional markets like moneyline, point spreads and over/unders.
Levy told SBC Americas in an interview last summer that “it was always our plan” to build up the sports betting side of the business after establishing its Betr Media brand. He admitted that the previous form of the sportsbook, which he termed V0, was not expected to be competitive until the company added the full suite of wagering options.
The V1 Betr Sportsbook uses the Chameleon platform, which Betr acquired in May 2023 from FansUnite. Last week, Betr also announced it had acquired a license to utilize Huddle Tech’s sports gaming technology, which includes odds-making, risk and trading tooling and a wide range of pre-event and in-play betting content, for its sportsbook.
More V1 sportsbook launches are planned over the coming months, starting with Indiana and Maryland, where Betr holds temporary sports wagering licenses, subject to regulatory approval. Betr Sportsbook will also enter Pennsylvania, Colorado and Kentucky as and when Betr is approved for a sports wagering license in each of these states. Betr will also soon step into the iGaming vertical with its upcoming Betr Casino product.
“We are thrilled to launch Group Mode for Betr Picks and to soft launch the new Betr Sportsbook,” said Levy on Thursday. “The new Betr Sportsbook puts us on a path towards ramping investing in this vertical and positions us as having made the most progress towards competing in the online sports betting industry amongst the other market leading fantasy sports pick em’ operators.
“Significant product improvements are on the way across both Picks and Sportsbook but we are proud of the quick progress we have made here.”
