Lottery courier service theLotter has announced that it will soon launch in Florida, continuing the momentum that has seen it double its U.S. market operations this summer.

Already active in Texas, Minnesota and Oregon before 2024, theLotter expanded into both New Jersey and New York last month. Florida will be its sixth state of operation. CEO Yael Hertz said the company plans to expand into additional states later this year.

“We’re thrilled to bring our services to Florida,” said Hertz. “Our launch in the Sunshine State marks a significant milestone for theLotter, and we are extremely proud to offer an accessible platform for ordering lottery tickets online. This brings a renewed level of convenience to customers in the area.”

theLotter will offer its Florida services in both English and Spanish, reflecting local demographics.

Lottery couriers like theLotter work by purchasing lottery tickets to order from a licensed retail partner on the player’s behalf. These tickets are then scanned into customers’ secure personal accounts, where they can be seen even before the draw takes place. Winners are notified quickly if they have won. Small prizes are paid into the player’s account while bigger wins are claimed by the ticket owner and delivered securely by the courier service.

While other lottery couriers charge an upfront fee on customer deposits as their way of making revenue, TheLotter charges a commission on ticket purchases and waives deposit fees. It does not take a cut of any winnings.

“Convenience, security, and trust are core principles at theLotter. Our customers frequently highlight the transparency and security they experience when using our services as decisive factors in choosing us,” added Hertz. “If you’re a winner, you can be sure you’ll know about it!”

Lottery couriers a fast-growing industry

theLotter is one of four major lottery couriers in the U.S. within a subsection of the industry that is growing in prominence and reach.

Jackpot.com, Jackpocket and Lotto.com have each made their own strides in 2024. Most notably, DraftKings acquired Jackpocket for $750 million earlier this year and Jackpot.com has struck a prominent partnership with the Associated Press.

A recent study suggested tickets purchased via a courier app account for less than 1% of total U.S. lottery sales, but there has been a notable rise in industry interest in the courier avenue.

This month, Google began accepting and running ads for lottery couriers in 33 U.S. states plus D.C., beginning on July 15. The search engine giant had previously only accepted advertisements for certain gambling-related activities such as state-run lotteries and horse racing.
