Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) continued its efforts to remove itself from the online sports betting and casino business by announcing that its casino Presque Isle Downs will now partner with bet365 for licensing in Pennsylvania. Previously the casino was the license holder for BetAmerica, later rebranded into TwinSpires.

Now that the TwinSpires online sportsbook and casino brand is defunct, Churchill Downs is making the most of its market access with a partnership with bet365.

“We are pleased to partner with a global leader in the online gaming industry,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI “Our relationship with bet365 enables us to maximize the value of our company’s sports betting and iGaming market access in Pennsylvania.”

Pennsylvania marks the third state of operation for bet365, which is already operational in New Jersey and Colorado. The operator also has plans to work with Raynham Park for sports betting in Massachusetts in the future.

A little less than a year ago, CDI announced plans to phase out its online gambling sites after struggling to get market share. During an earnings call, Carstanjen spoke about the competitive nature of the industry and how the company did not see a path to profitability. However, it does plan to continue to leverage its brick and mortar facilities and the according market access of those properties via partnerships like this one with bet365.
