The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has jointly fined BetMGM and the Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association for accepting bets on an unapproved sporting event.
The fine was determined through a consent agreement presented by the Board’s Office of Enforcement Counsel (OEC), a result of negotiations between OEC and Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, operator of Hollywood Casino Morgantown in Berks County and its sports wagering partner BetMGM.
BetMGM accepted and paid out bets on the exhibition boxing match of Victor Belfort vs Evander Holyfield on September 11, 2021, despite the PGCB specifically notifying all operators that betting on this event would not be permitted.
As a result, the control board issued a $7,500 fine to the operator for the 76 wagers that were accepted.
A copy of the approved consent agreement offering more details on the fine is available upon request through the Board’s Office of Communications.
