PointsBet has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, PointsBet New York LLC, has successfully launched online and mobile sports betting in New York.

The Empire State is the ninth state in which PointsBet is operational with its sports betting product, with the other states being New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, and Virginia

Commenting on the New York launch, PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken stated: “Launching in New York is a significant milestone for PointsBet, being one of nine approved online sports betting operators in the state.

“New York’s passionate sports fans and bettors will now have access to the fastest online sports betting product in the market, with a live, in-game betting experience that PointsBet controls through our proprietary technology and a world-class team.”

Earlier this month, the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) confirmed that the first four out of nine licensed operators – Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Rush Street Interactive – were approved to begin processing mobile sports betting in the state from January 8.

PointsBet was included as one of the remaining five other conditionally licensed operators by the NYSGC – alongside Bally’s, Wynn, Resorts World, and BetMGM – that would continue to work towards satisfying statutory and regulatory requirements necessary to launch in the state and that would be approved on a rolling basis when requirements are met.

PointsBet Group CEO and Managing Director, Sam Swanell, added: “This marks a momentous day for PointsBet in officially launching within the state of New York, poised to be one of the largest markets in the United States. The PointsBet team is excited to prove our reputation and consistent ability to deliver a world-class experience to New York sports bettors.”

Earlier this month, PointsBet announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, PointsBet Pennsylvania, had been awarded sports wagering and interactive gaming operator licenses in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
