DraftKings Inc has named Stephanie Sherman as its new Chief Marketing Officer, a move that the operator says will consolidate all marketing functions under her leadership.
Sherman joined DraftKings in 2013 as one of its first 15 employees. Described as “an instrumental team member”, she will continue to drive and scale future marketing, oversee brand and agency campaigns, media buying, and influencer strategy, among other functions.
Commenting on her new role, Sherman said: “When I started at DraftKings nine years ago, there was a genuine and collective sense that we were building something special, and zooming out to today, that has been validated more than I could have ever imagined.
“For all the accomplishments we’ve celebrated and adversity we’ve overcome, I take on this new position knowing there is still so much opportunity ahead along with brilliant people ready to deliver.”
Previously, Sherman was DraftKings’ Senior Vice President of Marketing, where she focused on customer acquisition and direct response marketing. She has helped to guide the operator’s ongoing business expansion as it included daily fantasy, sports betting, online casino, and digital collectibles into its offering and has also “necessitated increasingly savvy and data-driven performance”.
Sherman’s growth and contributions have been recognized by Adweek, who has named her as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Sports” the past two years in a row.
“Since our early days as an insurgent daily fantasy business, Stephanie has been a driving force of our growth and contributed hugely to DraftKings becoming a household name and a global, multi-product digital entertainment company enjoyed by millions of consumers,” said Matt Kalish, Co-Founder and President of DraftKings North America.
“Stephanie’s consistently strong performance has earned the respect of the entire DraftKings team and she is recognized as one of our industry’s most dynamic marketing minds. I am thrilled to elevate Stephanie as our Chief Marketing Officer and gain her integral perspective within our executive leadership team.”
Earlier this month, DraftKings revealed details of a multi-year financial commitment to assist state councils nationwide with funding to support the work of local non-profit organizations.
