Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has announced that certain departments and team members at Casino Woodbine, Great Blue Heron Casino, Casino Ajax, Elements Casino Mohawk and Elements Casino Brantford, who are represented by UNIFOR, have voted in favour of ratifying new collective agreements. The new collective agreements with UNIFOR team members are based on a four year term.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of the votes as we have worked tirelessly to design and offer a benefits and compensation package that would fairly reward our team members and recognise their contributions. In addition, we would also like to acknowledge and thank UNIFOR for their efforts during the negotiation process. We look forward to building a strong partnership with the union and its members in the years to come,” said Rod Baker, president and CEO, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

“Unifor members are pivotal to the profitability of the gaming sector,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor national president. “Casino workers have earned a share of the gains enjoyed by the employer.”

The new contract includes a wage increase in each year of the agreement and a one per cent increase to the pension. It also ensures Ajax workers can retain the benefits of union membership after the expansion of the Pickering casino.

“Unifor members in the casino sector enjoy a wage and pension advantage,” said Naureen Rizvi, Unifor Ontario regional director. “Protecting members’ benefits when the employer shifts work to different sites is a clear advantage of collective bargaining.”
